Data
Data Not Lasting
There is a number of reasons as to why your capped data is not lasting for the whole month. Two main reasons are the following:
1. Windows Updates – If you have selected to automatically run Windows Updates these will occur in the background when they become available. Sometimes these updates can be over 1GB. However, a user has the ability to disable these updates from occuring automatically, and rather select to be advise when an update becomes available. Unfortunately though, people that are making use of Windows 10 are unable to disable these updates from occurring automatically.
2. Online Streaming – This is another huge data eater. Streaming Online content such as YouTube videos, Netflix, Skype Video calls etc. an individuals data can run down quickly. Many sites that stream video content detect the quality of your internet connection automatically. If you have a good connection, the bit-rate of the streaming will go to a higher quality (eg. HD), as a result your data will run out quicker than if you were using the internet for normal browsing.
Data Carry Over
Unfortunately, any unused data does not carry over to the following month. On the first day of the new month all accounts will be loaded with the data cap that was requested when the account was created.
Should you find that you are running out of data before the end of every month, we offer the ability of having your account Topped Up with additional data. As we provide internet services to our clients on a month – to – month basis, they do have the flexibility to upgrade their account or switch over to uncapped should they choose.

No Connectivity

1. There is network issues that is currently being experienced
2. The service provider could be running maintenance or conducting system upgrades
3. If you are using WIFI, the devices that you are browsing on could be too far away from the router. There could also be possible obstructions between your device and the router therefore weakening the signal

Difference Between ADSL & Fibre
ADSL is dependent on the Telkom copper wire infrastructure, which is often unreliable and at times can become slow. Whereas with Fibre the cables are optic and are therefore far more reliable and offer much faster connectivity speeds
Do I Need A Phone Line For Fibre
No, fibre does not require you to have a Telkom landline as it works different to ADSL. Fibre connects via optical cable that carries data via light.
Must I Sign A Contract
With Fire Ant Technology you will not be required to sign a long-term contract as all of our internet and hosting services are on a month – to – month basis. We will require our clients to sign a Debit Order Mandate which gives us permission to debit their bank account for as long as the service is active.
Unshapped Accounts
All of our internet packages are unshapped and unthrottled. This means that you will not be restricted or experience reduced internet speeds if you download a lot.
Please note that although none of our accounts are throttled or shaped, preferrence is given to our Premium account holders as opposed to our Home account holders
Setup
Email (Quick Install)
The steps below will be the same whether you’re adding your first email account or additional accounts to Outlook.
1. Select File > Add Account
2. What you will see in the next screen will depend on the version of Outlook that you have.
– If you have Outlook 365 & 2016 you will be required to enter your email address and click Connect
– If you have Outlook 2010 & 2013 you will first need to enter your name, email address as well as your password. Once this is done you will click Next
3. If prompted, enter your password again, then select OK > Finish to start using your email account in Outlook
Email (Advanced Install)
If you are needing to enter specific values for both your incoming and outgoing server names, port numbers, or SSL settings, you can do this by making use of Outlook’s advance email setup option. The steps below will assist in setting up an IMAP account.
1. Open Outlook and select File > Add Account
2. On the next screen that will be displayed, you will be required to enter your email address, select Advanced Options, then select the box that says “Let me connect my account manually” and select Connect
3. Select IMAP as being your account type
4. The Account Settings screen should be pre-populated with most of the account settings that you will need. However, when installing an email account that is hosted with Fire Ant, we will provide you with the incoming and outgoing server settings required. Once you have inserted the necessary settings you will select Next
5. You will then be required to enter your password and then select Connect
Turn Off Windows Updates (Excluding 10)
If you have limited data and are noticing a significant increase in your usage, it could be as a result of Windows running automatic updates in the background. Below are steps in order to turn these off or be notified when new updates are available.
1. Open the Start menu in the bottom left hand corner on your taskbar
2. When the Start menu opens, you will notice a search bar. In this bar type “Windows Update” A search will initiate.
3. Select the matching result. It should be located at the top of the start menu.
4. You will then be taken to the Control Panel, Open the Windows Update settings. Select “change settings” from the upper left hand panel.
5. Open the dropdown menu under “Important Updates” header. You will then see a dropdown list that will provide you with different options that will assist in managing Updates. These options are as follows:
– Install updates automatically (recommended). Selecting this option will automate the whole process of downloading as well as installing the updates. This feature is recommended but would be best to deactivate this option if you are running a capped internet connection.
– Download updates but let me choose to install them. Selecting this option will download the updates but won’t install them. This feature can be used if you have an uncapped internet connection or if you have extra data, but perhaps you have limited space available on your hard drive. Windows will download these updates for you but will allow you to choose which of these updates you would like to install, and which of them you would like to discard.
– Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them. Selecting this option will allow Windows to scan for updates that are available. When it detects available updates, you will be notified that updates are available. You will also be able to choose which of them you would like to download, as well as see the size of the updates.
– Never check for updates (not recommended). Selecting this option will prevent Windows from searching, downloading and installing any updates. It is not recommended to select this option as it could lead to your system malfunctioning in some way or another.
Speeds
Experiencing Slow Internet
There may be times when you may be experiencing slow connection speeds than what you are used to on your package. There are a few reasons why you could be experiencing this. These include:
– The more devices that are connected to your network at the same time, you may notice a drop in speed. This is as a result that your connection speed needs to be split across multiple devices.
– You could be too far away from your router. This will weaken the signal that you should be receiving. This could also possibly happen if there is obstacles (eg. walls) inbetween you and your router.
Upgrading Account
If you find that the internet package that you signed up for is not meeting your needs (Possibly YouTube and Netflix is constantly buffering) you could upgrade your account, this can be done by sending an email through to our Sales Department
When deciding on what internet package will best suite your needs and requirements, speak to one of our friendly staff members. They will gladly advise as to which package would be best for you
